Ornament Card with Shaker

First of all I want to wish you all a Merry Christmas and a very Happy New Year. I am a little late in putting up this card but I hope you will be able to use this idea for other occasions too. This design is inspired by Jennifer Mcquire's Shaker Ornament Card.

I will be posting the entire list of materials that I have used for this card towards the end of this post. Let's put together all the things we need for this card. First we will need a card base of A2 (5.5 x 4.25 inches) size. We also need a cut patterned paper of the size 4 x 5.5 inches. This will form the back ground of the card. You can also stamp your own background if you want. Next cut a circle 4 inches in diameter for the ornament base.

 The stamp set used here is Frosty Fairy Friends by Lawn Fawn. I have stamped the house on the base and also cut out a mask of the same image. We will mask the house while we create the sky and stamp other images around.

I have put the mask on the stamped image and using the sponge blending tool, I rub the distress ink onto the card stock to form the sky. You can go as light or as dark as you want. Use a very light hand and go in a circular motion.

 While the mask is still on the stamped image, you can stamp the trees around the house. The pine trees and holly branches are all part of the same stamp set. I have used Versafine ink (onyx black and spanish moss) here but you can use any other pigment or dye ink. You can then remove the mask.

 Cut rings (outer circle 4 inches, inner 3.25 inches) from foam so you can stack them to form the ornament wall. This will help keep the sequins and beads inside. Here I have cut 3 rings and glued them using tom bow tape adhesive. You can use any dry adhesive for this purpose. Keep these aside and now we will go back to the ornament base.

Color the image using the colors of you choice. Here I have used Zig Clean Color Brush Pens. I will list the colors at the bottom. You can also use Ranger Glossy Accents to add some gloss to the roof of the house, berries on the holly branch etc. Once done adhere the rings to the base.

Dust the inside of your shaker using a anti static tool to ensure there is no adhesive which may cause the beads to stick to that area. Fill the base with sequins and beads. Make sure that they all are lying flat so that once sealed they have room to move freely.

Next cut a 4 inch circle with acetate to cover the base. I applied some tom bow tape adhesive on the foam and stuck the acetate to it to form the shaker window. The acetate tends to have static so ensure that is take care of before you stick it down else all the beads and sequins will stick to the window. Next cut a ring from pattern or plain paper and stick on the acetate so as to cover the foam.

Now that we have the shaker ready, on a small rectangle piece of paper, punch a hole and stick it to the back of the shaker. Then string the ribbon into it and that gives you your ornament.

We will now create the flap that will hold the ornament of the card. Cut a vellum piece that is 2.5 x 8.25 inches. Use the anti static tool on the vellum and then stamp your sentiment using VersaMark ink. Here I have used 'We wish you a Fairy Christmas' sentiment from the same stamp set. Using gold embossing powder. emboss the sentiment. To ensure minimal warping of vellum, make sure your heat gun is well heated and while heat setting, go on and off the vellum to allow intermittent cooling.

On the ornament, I have also stuck two fairies, one with a present and other with a wand. You can choose to stick them inside or on the outside. I have them on the outside so as to avoid any obstructions inside the shaker. I stamped these on the card stock and colored them using zip clean color brush pens (colors listed at the end). I also used some wink of stella to add clear shimmer to their wings and fuzzy cut them using scissors.

Now comes the last part of assembling the card. Hold the shaker against the patterned background paper. Now wrap the vellum strip around the ornament  and stick it on the back side of the pattern paper. Make sure the its sung enough so your ornament doesn't slide out but at the same time you should be able to slid your ornament in and out easily. Stick the pattern background to your card and you are done.
